Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and
humbleand gentle in victory.

主啊，請助我子！助他堅強到足以認知自己的軟弱，勇敢到足以面對自己的恐懼；助他勝而無驕、敗而不餒。

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know
Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

請助我子能以堅毅的行動代替空想；助他認識你－－進而了解「認識自己」是一切知識的根基。

Lead him I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but underthe stress and spur of difficulties
andchallenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

祈求你！引導我子離開安逸舒適之路，讓他接受困難挑戰的磨練；讓他學習在風暴中屹立不倒，但是對倒下的人保持憐憫。

Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself beforehe seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

請助我子心靈純淨，目標遠大；助他先管好自己再去領導別人；助他能夠歡笑，但也懂得哭泣；助他奮力向前，但不忘記過去。

And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always
be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always
remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.

當他做到這些之後，我祈求你賜給他幽默感，使他認真但不過於自我苛求；再賜給他謙遜，使他時時記住真正的偉大在質樸、真正的智慧在虛心、真正的力量在溫和。

Then, I, his father, will dare to whisper, have not lived in vain.
