The children of Israel didn’t find in the manna all the sweetness and strength they might have found in it. Not because the manna didn’t contain them, but because they longed for other meat. – anon
When Moses and the Israelites were trapped at the Red Sea, God brought them miraculously through. Yet, two months later, the Israelites were weary and tired of eating the same old food. They complained, “Why can’t we be back in Egypt?” Did they truly want captivity again? No. In their frustration, they missed the lesson that contentment is not the fulfillment of what one has; it is the realization of what one already has.
Many people view happiness as a future state, something to achieve later, when a certain goal is reached. Have you ever reached that goal only to find the happiness short-lived? Have you ever reached that goal only to find yourself already looking to something else for fulfillment?
Think about all the things you love about your life. Jot down a list of everything you already have. Ignore what might be or how you wish things could be in an ideal world, and cultivate an appreciation for life just as it is. Contentment is sweet to your soul.
Our every need whether physical, emotional or spiritual will be supplied if we simply trust in the abundance of the universe. By understanding that there is a difference between what you want and what you need; you will feel full and satisfied no matter what happens.
