The Boomerang of Love

You can smell it in a flower, you can see it in the sky, You can feel it soft and gentle as a summer breeze blows by – The touch of love is in the air!

You can show it with a smile, you will know it when you pray, It’s a gift that’s all around you and inside you every day – The touch of love is everywhere!
– Alice Joyce Davidson

When you think of a boomerang, what comes to mind? Probably a bent or curved stick that you throw high in the air. It eventually swings around and comes right back to the thrower’s hand. Children often wonder if the amazing stick is magic. Invented by the Australian Aborigines, the boomerang is actually the first man-made flying machine, an amazing hunk of wood that works on complex principles of physics. If you want it to come back to you, there are certain technique that must be mastered. It is no doubt one of the most remarkable tools in history.

You are familiar with the saying, Love isn’t love until you give it away. Like the boomerang, love is an action, an activity. Love is not something we feel; rather, love is something we do. It’s easy to master, and the “how to” manual is easy to follow. Just throw love away, high and wide. Give it out as often and as much as you can.

You may consider ways you can give away love this week.

Take a meal to someone who’s ill.

Write a note of encouragement and include a little cash for someone in need.

Baby-sit for a single mom.

Give love freely and watch it return to you from unexpected places.

It may be a warm note from a friend or a smile from a stranger, but when it comes, you’ll be lifted higher than you can imagine.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
