“It is interesting to notice how some minds
seem almost to create themselves, springing up under every disadvantage, and
working their solitary but irresistible way through a thousand
obstacles.”

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the
2012 Olympics in London. What I loved the most about these games is
hearing all of the adversity that many of these Olympians had to overcome
during their quest for gold. It was extremely inspiring to me.
There was one story in particular
that I thought I'd focus on this morning. It was that of South African
Olympian Oscar Pistorius – also known as the Blade Runner. Oscar had both
of his legs amputated at the age of 11 months old, yet 25 years later he found
himself competing among the world's greatest athletes.
Oscar finished in second place in
the 400 meter qualifying race and unfortunately came in last place during his
semifinal race; however in my mind it doesn't matter what place Oscar
finished. Oscar participating in these Olympic games is a message to
everybody out there that you can do whatever you want to do when you put your
mind to it – regardless of how many obstacles (or the size of the obstacles) you
face.
Oscar showed us that when faced
with adversity, you can either focus on the obstacle, or focus on all of the
opportunity out there – and sieze it.
When faced with adversity in your
career Howard – take a look at the photo above and then start focusing on the
positives in your career and life; and the opportunities will keep coming.
Have a great week!
