“Great opportunities to help others seldom
come, but small ones surround us every day.” - Sally

A few weeks ago, at a girls
high school championship track meet, a girl name Meghan Vogel made national
headlines. She made the headlines, not by winning, but by helping her competitor
to finish the race. One of her competitors, Arden McMath, cramped up in the
middle of the race, at which time Meghan, instead of finishing the race,
actually stopped, pick up Arden and helped her make it to the finish line. She
even made sure that Arden finished before her!
There are two things that amazed me about this
occurrence. The first one is that in today's world, people are so
competitive that it surprised me to see this girl rise above that mentality and
do what felt right to her in lieu of what others might
think.
The other thing that amazed me was the number of people that couldn't believe what she had done; the
number of people that were shocked that somebody would be so kind to another
person; the number of people that couldn't believe that somebody would actually
sacrifice winning to help one of their competitors.
The lesson we can all take
from this rare and wonderful occurrence is that you don't always have to win to
be successful, and you don't always have to beat others to achieve your goals.
In fact sometimes Howard, helping someone else will bring you the ultimate level
of success and enjoyment!
Have a great
week!
