Enjoy the real SNOW this coming Sunday night!
We are looking at two situations—a high pressure system that is pushing down from Canada/US mid-west that will likely produce some snow in SW VA.
The major concern is a nor’easter moving up the Atlantic coast. Presently, it is not clear how close to the coast the storm will pass. If closer, we will get more snow and get it farther inland. If it passes more out to sea, we will get less wind, less tidal flooding, more rain and mostly in the eastern portion of the Commonwealth.
Presently, they are saying 50% chance of worst case scenario with the nor’easter. The worst case looks like this:
On the coast, tidal flooding, winds of 30-40 mph sustained and 50 mph gusts. Possibility of 2 inches of rain which translates into potential for 16-20 inches of snow (if the full two inches of moisture come as snow).
I-95 corridor looking at about 1 inch of rain/8-10 inches of snow.
If system comes near VA coast, the storm may produce affects as far inland as the Blue Ridge.
Track should become more clear in next 24-36 hours. Looking at a Saturday night and Sunday event in eastern, central and northern VA.
